Web-based Patron Access
Catalog for Surpass
Web Safari
Overview
Surpass Web Safari provides the ideal patron catalog
for Centriva. A web-based catalog eliminates
the need for technicians to visit hundreds of
workstations district-wide to install catalog
software since only a web-browser it needed to
access the catalog. In addition to Web Safari,
some individual
libraries may still choose to implement a
Windows-based catalog on a few stations in the
library in addition to Web Safar. For this purpose, we offer the option
of adding Surpass Safari to
any Centriva installation.
Surpass Web Safari is provides more than just simple
subject, author, title, and keyword searches of your
collection. Web Safari is an information
gateway to the services of your library. Enjoy
unique features like patron-submitted book reviews
and the popular "patrons who borrowed this also
borrowed..." feature.
Those who choose to use both Web Safari and Safari
catalogs will appreciate the commonality between the
two. Both catalog offerings share an almost
identical feature set and interface, so there's no
learning curve when moving from one to the other.

Web Safari Highlights

Patron Account Access: Patrons can use
their ID and PIN to access their accounts.
They can see items they have on loan, hold, or
reserve and check for any fines they may owe.
Patron-book reviews:
Unique among patron catalogs, only Surpass offers
a patron book rating and review feature.
patrons submit reviews for possible publication
(upon approval of library staff). Once
approved, reviews appear right in the item's listing
in the Safari and Web Safari catalog.
Enhanced
Content: Enjoy added
content in your Web Safari catalog with Safari
Selections. Bring book cover jacket images,
professional book reviews, table of contents, author
notes and more into your catalog listings with this
affordable subscription. For more information
on Safari Selections subscriptions,

Bookbags:
Patron bookbags can be used for storing selected
items from multiple searches. Bookbags allow
the user to build a bibliography. By logging
in, the patron can even store the bookbag for later
use.
Recommended Reading
Lists: A recommended reading list is a
prepared bibliography available for browsing by
other patrons. Each list can have a
description and a representative graphic or photo
attached. Create lists for special events, holidays,
local author lists, and more! Lists can be
created by any authorized user (such as teachers) by
using the Safari catalog. So teachers could
even use this to publish lists of extra credit
reading materials or books for special projects,
like the science fair, right from their classrooms.
Visual Navigator:
Visual Navigator provides icon-based browsing to
Web Safari users. Web Safari includes over 200
beautiful graphics with the program in two artistic
styles. Unlike some competitors, our graphics
appeal to all ages, not just kids! You can
easily customize visual navigator by adding,
editing, hiding, and re-arranging buttons.
Create buttons that launch searches, link to other
pages of buttons, launch web sites, even link to
local documents such as a student or employee
handbook!
