Why Surpass?  It's Easy to Use, Of Course!

Automating your library for the first time means research. Questions. Trying out the software. And finally a choice.

After Shades Mountain Christian School (Birmingham, Alabama) had narrowed the selection to two programs, library staff gave first place to Surpass Library Automation software for both usability and affordability.

"While comparing Surpass to other programs, we found it to be very user friendly," said Mary Kay Martin, assistant to the Librarian.  "We were able to move around in it easily, and it wasn't too technical for us to understand.  It's ease of use appealed to us.  Other programs required at least two days of training, which was quite expensive.  According to Surpass, we could train ourselves!"

And they have done that!  So far the library staff has entered 2,000 MARC records of their 17,000-holding collection. "It is so easy to get around and the explanations are all there if you have a question," Mary Kay said. "We haven't even had to go to the manual too often!"

Mary Kay added that since the staff is converting the entire collection themselves, "we're pleased with being able to print our own barcodes."
