Surpass Self-Check
is a success at Belwood Elementary School
By Alice Robertson,
Media Specialist

Surpass Self-Check was a tremendous help in the media center! It
enabled us to assist students with selection of materials and
gave the students the freedom to check-out and check-in their
books.
Our circulation
increased due to having the system. The students loved using
Surpass Self-Check. Each child could check his/her account for
books that were on loan and needed to be returned. The kiosk
gave them a warning sound if there was a problem during
check-out. This signaled the media center staff to come over
and assist the child and let the child know that there was a
problem.
Surpass
Self-Check was an enormous time saver. We were able to
accomplish so many other things. The students truly loved using
the system and they took more responsibility for keeping up with
their books and returning them on time.
Each student
used their lunch number as their login. We assisted each child
the first week that the system was used. There were minimal
problems after the first week. The students had talked with
other classes about the system, and they came into the media
center excited about using the system and couldn’t wait to try
it.
The faculty and
staff also enjoyed the convenience of the self-check kiosk.
They were able to come in to the media center and check out
materials without assistance. They were also able to track
their account.
We were able to
lengthen the lessons that were planned for the media center and
devote our attention to the students needs since we had the
self-check system. There were no lines during check-out. The
students paced themselves adequately and checked-out as they
were finished making their selections.
I cannot say
enough about the benefits of Surpass Self-Check. I would highly
recommend it to all school libraries. |
